Compress a PDF

Reduce file size for upload or sharing, then verify that the document remains fit for its purpose.

Objective and when to use it

Compress when a size limit or slow connection matters. Keep the original so you can compare quality and restore detail if needed.

Recommended flow

  1. Record the original size and inspect images, text and forms.
  2. Choose a moderate compression level first.
  3. Compare representative pages at normal zoom and print size.
  4. Use a new file name and recheck the upload limit.

Care points

Compression can affect scanned text, fine lines, color and embedded files. Never treat a smaller file as proof that private content was removed.
